The Heart of Adventure: My Story & Philosophy
Hello and welcome to Golden Explorations Counseling Services. I’m so glad you’re here.
My mission is to support healing and personal growth through both nature-based adventure therapy and traditional counseling. Whether you feel most comfortable outdoors or prefer a more conventional setting, I offer services for individuals, teens and couples tailored to your needs.
A little about me!
My name is Bethany McRae, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Oklahoma. I created this practice to reach individuals who may find traditional, face-to-face therapy challenging or overwhelming.
After being diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood, I personally understood how difficult it can be to stay engaged in a conventional office setting. That experience inspired me to integrate movement, nature, and meaningful experiences into the therapeutic process.
I work especially well with neurodivergent individuals and am committed to providing a space that is accessible, affirming, and comfortable. My approach is client-centered and collaborative: while I bring expertise in psychology and evidence-based practices, you are the expert in your own life. Together, we’ll create a plan that aligns with your goals, preferences, and strengths.
I am proud to offer LGBTQ+ affirming care, ensuring that you can show up fully and authentically in our work together. I often draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and schema-informed therapy, while remaining flexible and responsive to the approaches that resonate most with you.,
I currently offer both traditional and adventure-based therapy for individuals, teens and couples, and I plan to introduce skills-based couples groups in the future using the Gottman Method.
If you’re ready to pursue growth, healing, and meaningful change—while staying true to who you are, I would be honored to work with you
Outside of my work as a therapist, I try to live the kind of balanced and meaningful life I encourage my clients to pursue. I’ve been happily married for six years and share my home with a lively group of cats and dogs who keep things entertaining. I love spending time outdoors and am an enthusiastic runner who enjoys participating in 5K races whenever I can. When I’m not working or studying, you might also find me rewatching episodes of The Golden Girls. I also have a long-standing soft spot for Kermit the Frog as my ADHD special interest because sometimes a little humor and heart go a long way.
My hope as a therapist is to help people reconnect with their strengths, build meaningful relationships, and create lives that feel authentic, fulfilling, and aligned with who they truly are.
